Let's Break It Down: Magnesium Glycinate

PSA

I am not a doctor (surprise)! I don't have a degree in the medical field, but I am a certified makeup artist and a human being, so I give advise based on what I learned in my experience.
Please do not take these breakdown posts as medical advice. I am simply here to explain to you what I know about my products and ingredients. I do my best to research all the topics we're talking about, but sometimes I'm wrong! Clock me (nicely).
If you have any allergic reactions to a product or have skin concerns, please speak to a licensed professional. Narcissus Beauty is not giving medical advise or instruction.

This isn't what we originally going to talk about this week, but I was sitting at my computer and had the other topic all written up. I just thought this one fit a little bit more.

Obviously, Magnesium Glycinate is not used in our makeup products, but it can be absorbed in the skin in a liquid form. I've used this product in the past for myself and I thought: "If other people are like me and have anxiety - maybe this can help?"

Again - I AM NOT A DOCTOR. Do not use this post as medical advice. I'm not responsible for any medical choices that you make for yourself. Do not go off of any medication because of what I say. That's silly. I'm just a twenty-something year old girl with bad anxiety, low sleep, and lots of stress, ok? I'm trying my best here and I'm trying different things and sharing it with you. Don't make any massive medical changes because of me. Also, ask your doctor before you take any new supplements please

Moving on. Magnesium Glycinate.

It went viral on TikTok not that long ago for being a great sleep aid and anti-anxiety aid. I, obviously, don't get medical advice from people on the Internet without a medical degree, but I was tired and desperate and, honestly, didn't want to do my last resort and go on medication.

So, I tried it.

I'm not going to lie: this thing is nasty. It tastes exactly like metal and fruit gummies. The first time I chugged it, I almost threw up because of the taste. I felt like I had to chew it.

But, damn. It knocked me out cold.

I go to bed quite late and I have trouble coming down from my days. I've always been like that. I keep myself quite high stress to keep myself functioning and busy, so it's difficult to come down from that. I noticed pretty quickly that a little mix of this, a disposable heating pad, and an Ashwaganda patch really helped me to sleep. Before I even used the other two items, I noticed the Magnesium really did help me to calm down.

I tried it for about a week, powering through the disgusting taste of it. It worked quite well.

So, why does this work so well?

According to studies, Magnesium Glycinate blocks the neuroendocrine pathways (oh my gods she's so science-y) from getting cortisol! I'll go into cortisol another time because I have so many brain rot thoughts about that. Basically, though, cortisol is like this hormone that can fuck with your weight and stress if its too high. Science stuff. I'm still learning.

Anyway - because it's blocking it, your brain can't be like AAAAAAAAA WE'RE DYING AND THAT GUY YOU MET SEVEN MONTHS AGO ONLY LIKED YOU BECAUSE HE WANTED TO FUCK YOU AND YOU'RE NEVER GOING TO FIND LOVE AND ALSO EVERYONE HATES YOU AND YOUR IDEAS ARE STUPID.

Only me? Ok. Moving on.

The Magnesium basically acts like a bouncer at an overprices Los Angeles club that only lets you in if you have like 100K followers. Like the Revolve party at Coachella. Who do you know here? No one? How many followers do you have on TikTok? 1,500? Get out. Sorry. Don't make the rules. 1Mil or no entry.

So far, I've liked my experience with it besides the taste. I think it's pretty good overall, but I wouldn't rely on it like every night cause I'm terrified of what that would do. I would say if you need a decently timed come down, try it.

It actually does have beauty uses, though. It's mostly used for conditioning treatments. Mostly used in hair conditioning treatments, the magnesium can also help with skin softening and conditioning if you feel like you have dry skin. It can also help with some antiaging processes, too.

Make sure you get the Magnesium Glycinate, though, if you plan on ingesting it. The other ones make you poop.

Like a lot.

You have been warned.
